Functional trainning for kids
Physical activity is essential at all stages of life, but in childhood it takes on an even more relevant role. Functional training for children has become one of the best ways to work on strength, coordination and agility in a fun way and adapted to their needs.
Unlike other traditional methods, this type of training focuses on natural body movements that help improve physical performance and prevent injuries from an early age.
At Cortijo Alto we have a functional training for children program with professional coaches and a safe and motivating approach.
What is functional training for children?
Functional training consists of performing exercises that mimic everyday movements, such as squatting, jumping, pushing or dragging objects.
In the case of children, these exercises are adapted to their physical development and their age, with the aim that they enjoy themselves while they work on basic skills that they will later apply in sport or in their day-to-day life.
Some characteristics of our children’s functional training are:
- Dynamic and varied exercises.
- Focus on fun and motivation.
- Use of safe and adapted materials: balls, ropes, cones, elastic bands, etc.
- Short and intense sessions that keep the child’s attention.
Benefits of functional training in childhood
Our functional training program not only improves physical performance, it also promotes emotional and social aspects in the little ones.
Some of its main benefits are:
- Improved coordination and balance: children learn to better control their movements.
- Injury prevention: by working on mobility and strength from an early age, we reduce future risks.
- Development of strength and endurance: in a progressive and safe way.
- Increase in confidence and self-esteem: overcoming small challenges motivates children to keep improving.
- Encouragement of teamwork: many activities are carried out in groups, which enhances socialization.
- Creation of healthy habits: sport becomes part of their routine from a young age.
Functional exercises for children
In our sessions, children’s functional training is based on creativity and play.
During the classes, a variety of equipment is used, such as elastic bands, medicine balls, agility ladders and more. These materials allow exercises that simulate everyday movements such as walking, running, jumping, and climbing stairs, working all muscle groups.
Some examples of exercises in children’s functional training classes are:
- Obstacle circuits: we combine jumps, movements and balances.
- Jump rope: develops agility and endurance.
- Exercises with elastic bands: improve strength without risk of injury.
- Dragging or pushing games: such as moving large balls or dragging ropes.
We always work under the supervision of our specialized trainers, who ensure correct execution and children’s safety.
Tips for introducing children to functional training
If you want your child to start practicing functional training, we recommend taking the following into account:
- Adapt the level of intensity to the age: training with a 6-year-old is not the same as with a 12-year-old.
- Prioritize fun over performance: the important thing is that they enjoy the sport.
- Accompany exercise with good habits: sufficient rest, hydration and a balanced diet.
- Practice in a safe environment: with qualified trainers and suitable materials.
